This article will provide free golf tips

The proper way to hit the golf ball further with a 460cc driver is a high launch angel and low spin rate. The goal is to get enough spin to get the ball in the air while reducing drag, to much spin to decrease speed and distance. You first need to make sure you are using a driver with a high enough loft, there are several things you can do to increase the launch angle and reduce the spin rate.

If you’ve been around the game awhile, you may have been taught to tee the ball so half the ball is above the face of the club. When using the new 460cc driver, you will need to tee the ball higher.

First you will need at least a 3 inch tee, then you need to tee the ball so it is almost totally above the club head.

If you are a right handed player move the ball further towards your left foot. Playing the ball off your left heel no longer applies with the larger club heads.

You need to be hitting the ball on the up swing, increasing your launch angle and lowering your spin rate. You may have to adjust the ball position even more depending on your swing plane.

Try experiment with moving the ball to the front edge of your foot, then adjusting it further back in your stance.

Other advanced golf swing tips
If you are like most golfers you ground your driver when you address the ball. Unfortunately, this will lead to mishits, hitting the ball off the heel of the club. You need to test your address by holding the driver off the ground to see where the ball will strike the face when your arms are extended.

There is a very easy fix to this problem. Play the ball slightly off the toe of the club. Test this out and see where the ball will impact the club with your arms extended.

Don’t worry about how it looks when you ground the club, it will look liking your going to hit the ball off the toe, but the ball is not on the ground, it’s tee’d up approximately 3 inches off the ground.

FYI, I never ground my driver at address.

The driver is not the same as 10 years ago. The larger size has changed the dynamics of it all together. The driver is unlike any other club in your bag.

You need to hit the ball on the up swing or past the apex of your swing. Every other club you want to make contact at or below the apex of the swing. This will lead to a higher launch angle.

The last driver tip to increase your launch angel while reducing spin is to get a stiffer shaft. With hours of work on a launch monitor (a program that calculates the spin rate, club head speed, swing speed, and launch angle) I have found that the proper shaft can make the most difference in affecting your spin rate. The launch monitor proved the stiffer the shaft the lower the spin rate, the weaker the shaft the higher the spin rate.

Before going this route, I recommend you see a club fitting professional, to help select the proper shaft.

Golf instructions to lower your handicap 5 strokes in 2 weeks

Here’s a quick tip to lower your golf handicap that’s fast and cheap.

First you are able to do this from the comfort of your own home. You will need to have a putting mat.

While watching TV, you can putt from the 3 foot line 10 times. Every time you miss start back at 0 again.

Do this for the 3 foot line, 5 foot line, and 7 foot line. As you get better change it up, focus on your breathing. Is it changing the closer you get to 10?

This tip will improve your putting, you will have more confidence, and be able you putt better under pressure.

There are certain ways to go about practicing at a driving range. In the 3 years I spent working at a driving range I have seen it all. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your practice session.

Don’t use the “rapid fire” technique. (This is where you hit the golf balls as fast as you can).

Watch out for the “Know it all guy”. (This is the guy that has all the answers on how to fix your swing). More often than not his advice will hurt more than help.

Practice like you will play. (When your hitting, aim for something, don’t just go out and hit into the range).

Work on one thing at a time. (It is easy to want to change everything at one time, but stay focused on one area at a time i.e. take a way, or grip, or down swing. Too much information will just make it harder to focus and improve.)

NO “Happy Gilmore” swinging. (Nothing good can come from doing this. You’ll just hurt yourself, your golf clubs, or the golfer standing next to you).

NOTE: Always always lay a towel down when hitting off of the mats ! lay the towel two inches behind the ball so you contact the ball first… you can hit the matt 4 inches behind the ball and the shot will feel good… on grass if you drop your club to the dirt 4 inches behind the ball your ball might go 20 yards… always lay a towel on matts…

Question for swing tips

how do you hit a fairway wood correctly?
I am playing well at the moment and long game has always been my strongest part but the fairway wood isn’t going correctly. The height I’m getting on it isn’t enough. I can hit driver correctly, leaning back and hitting it on the upswing, and irons hitting down to take a divot, but what do i do with a 3 wood or 5 wood? and what do I do at set up, it is normal or do i lean back like i do with a driver?

Answer: golf swing tips
Hopefully your are not leaning back on your driver, that will only reduce your swing speed and effect the contact with the ball. For hitting fairway woods you should think of sweeping the ball off the turf.

Try using a back swing that is taken back low to the ground, keep it as low as long as you can. This action should promote a sweeping action on the down swing.

For practice, place a golf ball 20 inches directly behind the ball you are going to hit. In the back swing try to push the “back” ball out of the way, then continue the rest of your swing.

Keep the sweeping motion in your mind, you want to brush the ball off the turf, do not chop down, do not lean back, allow the loft of the club and sweeping action to get the ball in the air.

There are many online golf tips that tell you to practice at the driving range but they do not tell you to practice on the putting green. But, Like you can assume, one of the most key things that you can achieve to improve your golf game is practice your putting skills. It is simpler to shave shots from your score on the green than it is from the tee. Although it may seem unachievable, only practicing and working to perfect a few small things will greatly advance your game. When you have learned what you ought to do, put into practice the skills until you have them mastered. Remember, a good putting stroke will at the end of the day translate into a lower score therefore taking the time to practice your putting is extremely significant.

You are of course going to have to practice to get better, but the precise skills that you have to practice are inclined to vary from golfer to golfer. As a general rule, there are three things that you ought to in particular concentrate on so as to develop the best golf game feasible. The first skill is ensuring that your stroke is right so that you will strike the golf ball precisely in the middle of the clubhead. If you are not bang on the center you will never be capable to dominate putting. You plainly can not contact the ball from the edge of the putter head and be expecting it to go in a straight line. It does not matter how much you practice, this is not feasible and will conclude in a lot of frustration over what you’re doing wrong.

After you have worked to improve hitting the golf ball from the very middle of the club-head you have to progress onto to ensuring that you constantly strike the ball in a square line to the target. In other words, if the ball needs to be aimed 3 feet above the flag, you would not want to aim the ball directly towards the hole. You could think this sounds a bit obvious, yet a lot of people do not squarely align the ball to the objective. They next scratch their head and question why they’re missing their shot. Though you are off by hardly a fraction, this can seriously change your putting game because the ball isn’t going to the target you intended.

You will probably want to practice this tip many times, most golfers do not appreciate when they are just slightly off center from the target. However even the least difference away from the target will conclude in a missed shot and an increased handicap. Work on this by making sure that you take lots of time to practice. This is even a skill that you can practice in your office, or living room at home using a small home putting green. On the other hand, visiting the driving range is not going to assist you here so avoid them if feasible whilst you are working on this routine.

Your ultimate skill that you need to work on to improve your putting skills is to make sure that you are retaining the clubhead tempo when you are about to make contact with the ball. Many players make the error of slowing the club down right before they actually hit the ball. This will cause you to lose the momentum that you require in order for the ball to make it to your target. Making a deliberate effort to not slow the club down will typically be enough in order to perfect this skill and confer you better results.

Take into account that practice is the solution to putting perfectly, so take as much time on the practice green than you do on the golf swing practice range.

Get practical things to know about golf stretching exercise – go through the web page. The times have come when proper information is really only one click away, use this opportunity.

A golf tip online can save you hours out of your time, nonetheless would it honestly help your game? With a growing number of individuals acquiring Web connections, golfers have been flocking to the Internet in hopes to search out tips, tactics and even total golf performance applications to save their own golf game.

There are numerous concerns with taking a golf tip on the web and with the expectation it may be the silver bullet to your game. Make sure you keep in mind the source of this golf tip. For those who see an article like this one, or find some resource via the internet, always read the resource box at the bottom of the article.

Generally the article or resource will have a mini- bio of the one which authored the advice with a link to either the website or some form of indepth reason of who the person is and what their qualifications are.

Any individual golfer regardless of what his or her experience or certifications can post a golf tip via internet via website, blog or paper. On the net this is widespread! There are more so- named as experts than ever before. Each golfer very likely has a quantity of worthwhile strategies and information they’ve got to give, but if they are not qualified to provide it, they need to very likely keep it for their own game.

Given the Internet turning into more of a “pay- for- content” medium, there’s lots of competent people who are adding effective golf tips via the internet, together with reports, ebooks and also complete special sites like my Golf- Trainer. com site that has been on the net for over 5 years now. Ever since then, I have discovered a great deal of imitation internet sites and services, and is one tremendous problem with the internet.

Web surfers might never know what reports, ebooks and membership sites are probably the most reputable and original in arrangement and effectiveness. I am almost always hesitant with reading any golf tip on the net until I carefully look into the person behind the system. How long have they been in their profession? What successes have they given a hand to produce? And privided you can personally seek the advice of a couple of people who have purchased and benefited from their offerings?

During the process of exploring the products and programs, read all of the copy on the site. You would read some pretty remarkable things Which is hard to digest. Most of these boasts seem crazy once you consider how long they have been on the net and how many so- named golfers they’ve assisted. Do some math and you’ll notice that most figures are probably bogus.

The bottom line with any golf tip on the web is if it does for that matter also help your game. If it does, you’ll most likely reveal to many other golfing coworkers about it and the website and business will likely be successful merely from word- of- mouth.

Yet one last piece of advice. Each and every person or business sharing golf tips via the internet needs to be reachable. You must easily be able to acquire their contact information, as well as phone number. Any time I answer my phone, people are astonished! I ask them why, and they say they didn’t know there was a “real person” behind it.

Which is a sad setting that indicates the skepticism of web visitors. If you have to look very hard for the contact details, I would possibly not recommend using or buying any golf tips or products on the internet.

I don’t want to deter you, but simply do a small amount of research when looking for a golf tip via the internet.

See what others have done to improve their golf game. Having problems with a slice? See how you can Cure Your Golf Slice or Hit Longer Drives even Break 80!

It’s when you start to play golf that you learn fastest. If you have bad golfing habits today, you probably learned them when you first took up golf. But the good news is that anyone can break bad habits and learn good ones. Here are a couple of tips to help you on your way to playing better golf.

1. Your aim is vitally important. If you can’t send the ball in the right direction you will never get it in any of the holes. The clubface is the only thing that propels the ball, so line up the clubface with the target first, then take your stance with your shoulders parallel to the target line.

2. Always aim away from potential problems. Tee the ball on the side where the problem is. This will help to keep the ball in play and avoid penalties.

3. Bad wrist action equals a bad shot in 90 percent of cases. Keep the left wrist flat in relation to the back of the left forearm and the back of the left hand, and don’t swing the club back farther than shoulder turn.

4. Read the green properly. A golf ball will generally roll away from a hill and towards a water source. So, keep this in mind and adjust as necessary.

5. The grain of the green is important too as it effects the roll. Shiny grass show the grain running away from you, and dull grass highlights the grain running towards you. Putts with the grain go faster and further. Those against the grain go slower and less far.

6. Your shoulders should free golf tips. They should be passive and not lead. Remember that your shoulder movement will determine the direction that your club, and therefore the ball, will travel.

7. Place the golf ball on the ground and take your stance in such a way that the shadow of your head covers the ball. Make your swing keeping your eyes on the shadow. If the shadow moves off the ball you have lost the proper swing center. If you keep the shadow on the ball, even though it moves a little, you have maintained the correct swing position.

There are many other factors to consider when learning how to play better golf. You also have to consider your short game. You need to learn how to drive the ball further without power but learning how to drive it using speed rather than force.

What is really important is how to finish your swing correctly. No matter if it’s the long game, short game or even putting. The swing is of course the most basic concept to learn and learn correctly.

Probably the question that first comes to your mind when you read this title is: what is S.A.I.D. and how does it help my golf game? The reality is that S.A.I.D. is very connected to your golf swing and is a very important principle if you want to hit the ball farther and lower your scores.

Before introducing S.A.I.D. let us discuss improvement in the game of golf. Improving your golf game requires developing several disciplines. Generally speaking you must develop proper swing mechanics, practice every aspect of the game (putting, short game, chipping, pitching, short irons, long irons, fairway woods, and driver), develop your course management skills, play practice rounds, create understanding for the nuances of the game, develop confidence, and finally develop your body.

Understand that the entire list of golf disciplines works as a unit to improve your golf game. No one facet can be eliminated from this list without having an effect on your overall improvement. For example, if I were never to practice putting, how well would I play? I may play great from tee to green, but when it comes to putting, look for my scores to go through the roof.

The last discipline mentioned was your body. Quite often this is the forgotten aspect of improving your golf game, but it is equally important. Let me ask you a question. What swings your driver? Some answers may be your swing. In reality, your body swings the club. Yes, your body swings the club, not the other way around. Developing your body in relation to the swing allows for a foundation to be created. This foundation is where you are able to develop the proper mechanics of the swing.

If your body does not have the needed flexibility, balance, coordination, or power to swing a club, how well are you going to swing a driver? Not very well. If your body is weak and inflexible developing an optimal swing will be next to impossible.

The development of the body in relation to the swing is where S.A.I.D. comes into play. S.A.I.D. refers to the principle of “specific adaptation to imposed demands.” This principle states that the body will adapt to the demands of the training stimulus but will not adapt beyond the scope of that training stimulus (NSCA Strength and Conditioning Journal, pg. 18, August, 2005).

Did I loose you in that last paragraph?

Let me explain. This principle pertains to developing the body’s level of fitness in relation to any sport or activity. For example, if I were to perform a bicep curl with a 25-pound dumbbell 15 times the curl could be difficult in the beginning, but over time it would get easier and eventually I could crank out 15 repetitions with no problem. This is a result of my body adapting (muscles getting stronger) to the resistance placed on my body by the dumbbell.

Now here is the kicker, if I continued to only lift a 25-pound dumbbell over the period of a year what do you think would happen? I like to use the phrase “diminishing returns” to explain this situation. Once the body adapts to a resistance, the body plateaus and does not get stronger. At this point it can even get weaker!

Now how does this pertain to golf? Think about it for a moment. Greater distance off the tee is always a desire of every amateur playing the sport. Amateurs go to great length to hit the ball 20, 10, or even 5 yards farther. They will buy new drivers, new golf balls, new anything! Now if an amateur’s clubhead speed is somewhere around 85 mph, how is that clubhead speed going to improve with a new driver or new ball? The answer is it will not.

Hypothetically, let’s assume you have fairly efficient swing mechanics. How are you going to increase your clubhead speed? (Remember clubhead speed stays the same even if you buy a new driver.) Someway or somehow you are going to have to generate greater clubhead speed.

Increasing the efficiency with which you swing the club is one way. But the efficiency with which you swing a club has an end point, and once that end point is reached it won’t go any farther. What is the other way by which you can increase your clubhead speed? Implementing a golf fitness program into your routine can help.

A golf fitness program will develop the “foundation” to improve your swing mechanics. This type of program will develop your flexibility, balance, coordination, strength, and endurance capacities to improve your swing.

Additionally, it can develop greater clubhead speed. Clubhead speed is a result of power development. Power development is contingent upon your swing mechanics and body. Improving the power outputs of your body will enhance your clubhead speed. And greater clubhead speed equates to greater distance on your drives.

If you have never developed a level of golf fitness, your body is set at a certain level of power-generating capabilities. Until you force the body to increase its power-generating capabilities through the S.A.I.D. principle, your club head speed will stay the same. A golf fitness program will place resistance on your body forcing it to adapt and improve its power capabilities. The end result will be greater clubhead speed, and that can equate to longer drives.

Looking for a golf-specific fitness program to improve your clubhead speed? Look no further than my manual Your Body & Your Swing. This program is filled with golf-specific flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power exercises to enhance your golf swing. My program implements the S.A.I.D. principle with the goal of improving your scores and your driving distances.

The ability to hit a particular shot when under pressure.

It doesn’t matter what type of shot it is but every player MUST have this ability if they want to improve and stop the “bleeding”! I was lucky enough to have spent time with the late Gardner Dickinson and during our times together we spoke a lot about pressure situations. Gardner was one of the few people that Ben Hogan spent a lot of time with and actually worked for Mr. Hogan during the off season of the Tour as a Teaching Professional at Tamarisk, in Palm Springs California. One day Mr. Hogan asked Gardner what his “GOTO” shot was. Gardner didn’t have an answer so Mr. Hogan told him that every player has to have a “GOTO”. Mr. Hogan then told him that his was a punch shot. Gardners swing was modeled after Hogan so he decided to incorporate this shot into his own game.

As Gardner and I were talking I suddenly realized that I didn’t have a “GOTO” either so being a Hogan disciple I decided I would “master” this shot as well. Looking back it was one of the best things I could ever do for my game. I know that I can hit this shot under any pressure, in any condition, from any lie. What a great feeling it is to control your golf ball!

When I am teaching short game, and especially wedge play, there are only two shots that I teach. A “stiff-arm” pitch and the “knockdown” wedge. These are both reliable and accurate for the top players as well as the average player. There are virtually no moving parts so there is less risk of hitting poor shots. I personally am not a fan of trying to hit “lob” shots with a big high swing and a bent left wrist…it takes too much timing and practice. Even the best players in the world only hit these type of shots perfect 50% of the time! You can still hit a “lob” shot with a “stiff arm” pitch with much more accuracy and reliability. I recently had the privilege of working with a college player that was #1 on his team. From 100 yards and in he was getting the ball up and down 30% of the time. He used a lot of moving parts, big swings, flip the clubface, etc. After a Boot Camp on short game and learning the “stiff arm” and “knockdown” wedge play we charted his progress. His up and down percentage went to 80%!

Remember, wedges are for accuracy, NOT distance they are the scoring clubs. In fact, if you have ever seen video of Hogan and some of the “old time” players their wedge swings were quite different than their full swings. A much shorter motion and more of a “punching” action.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say “the pros make it look so simple” or “it looks like the pros are swinging so easy, yet, they hit it a mile”. Here’s a question to all golfers out there. If the pros look like they are making this simple movement, why are you twisting up in circles and swinging out of your shoes on every shot? It makes sense to me that if the best players in the world have a simple, easy movement, you should be trying to copy what they are doing. Unfortunately, as much as you want this simple, easy swing, you can’t do it. Why? Because simple … is difficult.

Simple is Difficult?

What do I mean by simple is difficult? What I mean, is the less you move your body in golf, the harder it is. Now you’re probably thinking that this just doesn’t make sense. Everyone knows that If you were to move less it would be much easier! Well if this were the case, you would be seeing everyone with nice, compact, easy golf swings out there and I would have no reason to write this tip. Here are the reasons you don’t have a simple, easy, compact swing:

1. Human Nature

A couple of ways human nature affects your swing is that it is telling you that the farther you swing back, the farther you will hit the ball. It’s also saying that the harder you hit the ball, the farther it will go. Both of these thoughts involve your arms and hitting the ball hard. Unfortunately, you are only so strong. If golf was a purely a strength game, every body builder would also be a professional golfer. Also, if golf was a strength game, you would have never heard of Chi Chi Rodriguez, who, in his prime, was only 128 lbs.

Now that you understand that you don’t have to have a long backswing to generate power, how far should you go back? I tell my students that once their shoulder rotation stops, so should the club. You want the shoulder rotation to determine your backswing length instead of your club still going back long after the shoulders have stopped. At first, this shorter backswing will feel like you don’t have a lot of power so it will be more difficult to do, but as you get used to it, you will soon see your shots fly just as far, if not farther, with half the backswing.

The feeling of hitting the ball hard must be eliminated from your swing as well as the long backswing. This is because harder you try to hit the ball, the tighter your wrists will become. If your wrists tighten, the club will actually swing slower and the clubface may be held open at impact causing you to spin the ball to the right. In order to understand the proper feeling you should have in your wrists, think of them like a hinge on a door. The hinge on a door is loose and free flowing. There is no resistance. If you keep your wrists as loose as a hinge on a door, you will allow the club to whip faster and square up through impact. This whipping action is what gives a pro tremendous clubhead speed with what looks like an effortless swing.

2. Distance Doesn’t Necessarily Equal Effort

Throughout your golfing life, you have equated “X” amount of power, with “X” amount of distance. As an example, if you were to swing really hard, your mind is saying that this should produce a really long shot. Unfortunately, the harder you swing, the shorter the shot ends up going. As I explained above, the harder you swing, the tighter you get, the more the clubface will hit the ball in an open position. So when I tell you that you should swing easier and looser, you have to convince you mind that this is going to produce shots that will go farther than ever before. If you don’t believe me, think back to the time you hit that one drive 30 – 50 yards farther than any other shot in your life. What did you feel when you hit this shot? I bet you said that you felt “nothing” and that it was “effortless.” This means that you could not have swung really hard yet you produced a shot that went farther than ever before.

The hardest part about swinging effortlessly is that it goes against what your brain is thinking. Your brain is thinking that swinging hard equals more power and swinging easy equals less power. If you think about the pros, they look like they are barley swinging and yet they can hit the ball a long way. So forget about trying to smash it as hard as you can. Swing in control and you will be amazed at how far you will hit it even though it doesn’t feel like you are putting any effort into it at all.

3. Less Movement is More Strenuous

Now I know you’re shaking your head at this topic because you know for a fact that if you move less it can’t possibly more strenuous right? Wrong! Moving less in the golf swing is more strenuous because moving less creates a tighter, more coiled up swing. To understand what I mean, think about your backswing. Imagine turning your shoulders back while resisting the lower body rotation. If you did, you would feel very tightly coiled because your hips would move approximately half that of the shoulders. This tight, coiling in the backswing will allow your body to uncoil quickly in the downswing. Think of it like a spring. If you coil up a spring, it will snap back very quickly. Now imagine if you were to turn your shoulders back but this time you lifted your left heel and turned your hips excessively. If you did, you would move more than if you resisted with your hips and you would not develop this tight, wound up, feeling. If you are not tightly coiled, you will not uncoil properly thus causing you to use your arms to hit the ball. So turning back more is actually less strenuous because by turning more, you don’t get the same tight wound up feeling you get when you resist your hip rotation in the backswing.

Here’s a re-cap of 4 things you can do to make your swing look like that of a pro:

1. Shorten up your backswing. When your shoulders stop, so should your club.

2. Keep your wrists looser to allow the club to whip faster.

3. Convince yourself that swinging easier will hit the ball farther than swinging harder.

4. Resist the lower body rotation to create a simple backswing and tighter coil.

If you can work on these 4 things, you will start to look like the pros you idolize. The more you look like them when you swing, the more you will start hit it like them when you play.

Until next time,

Tiger Woods workout is supposedly this “hush-hush” secret nobody knows about, but everybody is dying to find out. Tiger is human like every other golfer and realizes the importance of conditioning for golf. He brought a new meaning to the word golf as a “sport”.

Tiger Woods workout has been rumored to be grueling and highly intensive. I was on a golf forum and even heard someone say Tiger Woods bench presses 300 pounds. I almost fell out of my chair.

For Tiger to put his rotator cuffs, chest and shoulder muscles at risk by bench pressing 300 pounds is a bit extreme. I can confidently say Tiger does not do heavy bench presses. They do no benefit to the golf swing, and put the shoulder complex at a very high risk of injury.

On the other hand, Tiger Woods workout is definitely with weights and most likely progressing to more weights per exercise. All you have to do is look at Tigers physique and you can tell he has gotten bigger and bigger.

But the six million dollar question is, “what is Tiger Woods workout”? “What does he do to produce the results he’s getting on the course”?

Having been a strength and conditioning expert for the better part of 20 years now, I can tell you he’s doing many exercises incorporating balance, stability, coordination, power and flexibility.

As fast as Tiger swings the club, he realizes he needs to keep his core strength and flexibility at a very high level, and most likely incorporates dynamic strength exercises with weighted medicine balls, exercise tubing, balance boards and free weights (most likely dumbbells).

The rumors that are going around are quite comical. I even heard one that says he is 3 percent bodyfat. That is unbelievable! There is no way he is even under 10 percent. You need to realize that a bodyfat percentage at 3 percent is what professional body builders have during peak competition. That’s with veins sticking out all over their body’s and skin that is paper thin on top of the muscle.

The search for Tiger Woods workout should end right here!

Take that time in starting you’re very own golf fitness workout, incorporating core rotational strength and flexibility; balance; stability; dynamic sequencing of motion with resistance and ultimately power.

There are many “so-called” golf fitness books, dvds and products out there. Be aware! Anything that shows pictures of a golfer sitting in a machine in a gym is NOT golf specific fitness!

The golf swing is a very dynamic movement that’s done “on your feet”. Most of your exercises should be done this way. Not sitting in a machine isolating one muscle group at a time.

What I want you to do now, is stop the search and start your program. Let the mystery continue of Tiger Woods workout.

Believe it or not, when one performs a golf back swing, it is not just your arms. It is also more about the golfer’s back as it turns away from the target. The club is more so as being put behind the golfer’s back than it is swung up towards the air.

The move backswing

If you look at it closely, the golf back swing actually works from up to down. The takeaway back swing begins from the top as you make the movement on your arms and follows as you do that turn on your shoulders. The movement then goes straight down towards the legs and the hips.

The golf back swing is primarily about how the body is being coiled upwards thus creating the needed tension in the muscles as well as torque to be able to let out that all powerful downswing. Particularly, that swing is created anywhere in between the golfer’s turning his or her upper body as well as shoulders and the turning – to a lesser degree – the lower body and the hips.

Relax

It is highly advisable that one should not do the swing in a hurried manner. If a back swing is in any way done in a hurry, the downswing does not become fast, actually it could do the opposite.

The backswing speed should be in a tempo that is steady and should neither be fast nor slow. Although some golfers have that tendency to go way faster than the regular. Anytime you catch or are aware of yourself doing this, try to slow it down a bit.

The move downswing

When you reach the downswing, all you really need to do is to just let it go. Let the downswing happen. However, this only applies if ever you were able to start with a golf stance, backswing and grip that is correct.

The downswing must be the organic result of all that went before it. If you were able to do your backswing in the correct manner, your body will unwind in itself thus releasing the club and striking the ball that will therefore result in a follow through that is balanced.

The follow-through move

A follow-through should be best seen as the feather in your cap move. The legs must be adequately straight and the hips have to form a straight line together with the legs.

This move will serve as the gauge of the whole swing you have just done. You know that you were able to pull a swing that is smooth and balanced if in the end you have a position that looks like the letter C only in reverse.

What would be your perfect golf outing? It’s likely not the same for anyone, with different ideas in mind.

A lot of golfers consider the ideal trip to be going to a nationally renowned golf course and playing on it, knowing that famous golfers had played there. Many avid golfers would give anything for that chance. These are the courses where the legends have played and won major tournaments – players like Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods.

For some golfers, though, the perfect golf outing has more to do with ideal weather than with location. Some golfers would rather play on a day with cool temperatures and a gentle breeze, while others prefer to play in more tropical conditions or even freezing weather. Some golfers will actually try to play when the temperature are very high, or very low, just to see how well the extreme conditions affect their game.

There are even golfers who are willing and eager to play in the snow and at night. There are specially designed golf balls for these purposes. The night players can easily see their golf balls all over the course, because they glow in the dark. Snowbound golfers have the ability to use fluorescent golf balls. These brightly colored balls are easier to see against the white snow on the golf course.

No matter how you like it, golfing in extreme conditions is challenging, and not for every golfer. For golfers who are willing to play in hot temperatures, they have to remember to stay hydrated with a lot of water, and avoid alcohol. For golfers who like to play in the frigid temperatures, they should bring a warm drink in a thermos to help keep their body temperature steady, even if walking the course. It is not unusual for these golfers to consider these conditions to be perfect golf outings.

For most golfers, the perfect day of golf is hitting their favorite course with some good friends and hit golf balls, enjoying themselves and not taking it too seriously. This type of golfer is the majority, and these players are usually found playing in couples and foursomes. They will tease each other about bad shots, and compliment each other on good shots. The final score usually doesn’t matter (unless they are serious about golfing), because they are hitting for fun and stress relief.

There are even golfers who favor playing by themselves. The solo golfer usually walks the course, learning the feel of every tee box, fairway and green on his or her own feet.

Whether you’re looking to travel to new courses around the world, to take on extreme golfing challenges, playing to improve your golf game, or just enjoy the satisfaction of a day of golf with friends, it’s up to you to decide what your perfect golf outing is. All you need to do after that is to go out and play golf!

Here is a quick guide to help you take it to the next level.

If You Shoot Over 100

If you currently shoot over 100 you are probably new to the game. Golf is game that takes plenty of practice and understanding. At your level, you’re probably very excited to just get out to play. You always have a big grin on your face because you’ve found a new hobby that gives you a little exercise and gets you breathing some fresh air. Unfortunately, shooting over 100 will get old very quickly especially if you’re a competitive person by nature. So your smile will start to turn into a frown and you may end up giving the game up. It is quite easy to break 100 if you know what to do.

What to Do To Break 100

If you’re new to the game you have not ingrained any bad habits yet, so before you do, take some lessons from a qualified pro. It’s usually quite easy to teach you the proper fundamentals of the golf swing because you’re eager to learn and never second guesses the teacher. If the relationship between the student and teacher is good, the speed at which you will see results is very quick. Usually within a month or two the “over 100″ shooter can easily take 10 – 20 shots off of their game. Once you break 100 on a regular basis you’ll start to see the game differently. Although shooting in the 70′s is a few years into the future it may be attainable because taking lessons initially has given you a great start on the game.

If You Shoot Over 90

If you currently shoot over 90 you’re someone who has to play more often. You’re probably playing about 20 – 30 rounds a year and most of these rounds are in corporate tournaments. Corporate tournaments are a definite game wrecker. The usual scramble format leads you to just bashing the ball as hard as you can trying to get that one drive that helps your team. Unfortunately this leads to a HUGE slice with the driver which doesn’t help your team at all. I know it’s fun to try and hit the ball as hard as you can but If wailing away at it was the way to play good golf, everyone would be a pro. You will also find the short game very difficult. Although the short shots around the green look easy they quickly become a nightmare to you because of the amount of touch that’s required.

What to Do To Break 90

For starters, you have to get out to the course more often. You can still play in corporate events but you have to do so with a new attitude. You have to quit trying to be the hero and start actually helping your team. This can be done by swinging easy and trying to get the ball in the fairway or the middle of the green. If you swing easier and try to become more accurate you will be amazed at how many of your shots the team actually uses. You would greatly benefit from weekly lessons. The lessons would not only give you a better swing but they would get you out to the range and course on a regular basis. Finally, you have to take at least one short game lesson to see how easy it can be. This will create a better understanding of the short game which will then make practicing it more enjoyable.

If You Shoot Over 80

You’re the kind of person the major club manufacturers love. You think that you can “buy your game” so every opportunity you get to try the latest and greatest clubs you take it because you don’t think that your swing is the problem. So you buy that new driver and for a while you hit it great. A few weeks later that great new club isn’t so great anymore and it’s back to your old game. This leaves you scratching your head because you thought you had it and now it’s gone. At some point in your golf career you probably have taken 1 – 3 lessons and you always try every golf tip you hear about. Because of these constant changes in both your swing and your clubs you never really have the opportunity to get used to anything so you are left in a state of limbo always thinking that the elusive 70′s are just around the corner.

What to Do To Break 80

In order to break 80, you have to admit that it’s not the clubs. It’s about developing a repeatable swing and a great short game. To create this repeatable swing and great short game, you have to work with a qualified teacher on a weekly basis. You’re going to forget trying different tips and quick fixes because you will destroy the changes the teacher is trying to make. This whole process is not going to be easy because you basically have to re-learn the swing (making changes to your swing may cause you to hit some very poor shots at first because you’re not used to it and you’re in between swings). If you stay determined, you’ll start to hit some shots that will totally amaze you. These amazing shots are telling you that your hard work is paying off and pretty soon you will be playing in the 70′s.

If You Shoot Over 72

You have a great swing. It’ll still go astray on them from time to time but you can usually get it back rather quickly. You usually make a few mistakes in a round that you just can’t seem to let go of. This creates stress and pressure that effects the rest of your game. Your short game may not be as good it could be. You know this but actually finding time to practice it is sometimes a challenge. Finally, you may be taking the game a little too seriously causing you to try to hit every shot perfectly. This may lead to second guessing your swing which is definitely trouble when you are on the course.

What to Do To Break Par

You have to find the time to do some serious work on the short game. If it’s difficult to make it out to the course you can always chip and pitch balls in your backyard and putt on an indoor carpet every night. This dedication to the short game is what will allow you to still shoot good numbers when your swing is not at it’s best. It will also reduce pressure on your approach shots because if you can get the ball up and down regularly it’s not that big of a deal if you miss the odd green. When you do work on your full swing try to work on the weaker clubs in your bag and hitting the ball from poor lies. Also, forget distance. At your level you are probably long enough. Concentrate on never swinging over 80% of your ability. If you can resist the temptation to hit the ball too hard your miss hits will not stray to far off line eliminating the need for that miraculous shot to get you back it the game. Finally, have fun out there. If you lighten up a little you will reduce your stress levels allowing you to switch into automatic mode instead of having to grind it out all of the time.

Until next time,

“I have been working on my golf swing ever since I received your Power Pack. Every morning when I wake up the first thing I do is play my mind movie. I go through each frame of my golf swing the way you say in the book.”

“My local driving range do a special ‘off-peak’ offer of a hundred balls for the price of thirty from 07.30 to 09.00 Mondays to Fridays. So I drop by on the way to work and hit a few balls.”

“The other morning when I got to the driving range I did my warm-up exercises the way you say in the book, then I played my mind movie, addressed my ball and fired off a six iron. There’s a small mound like a golf green with a flag on it 160 yards from the tee. My six iron screamed off the face of the club and landed right by that flag. It felt so good I just couldn’t wait to play another shot.”

“It went on and on; just about every six iron I hit landed on that small green. My golf swing felt absolutely right. I didn’t want to hit another club. I must have hit fourty balls and only two or three missed the green.”

“When I eventually persuaded myself to try my rescue club the results weren’t quite so good. They were still better than normal, but they weren’t all clean strikes like the six iron shots I’d been hitting.”

“So I was not feeling as confident when I plucked my five wood from the bag. It didn’t matter, the first one flew right to the end of the range. I’m here to tell you that every single shot I hit with that club went straight as an arrow.”

“By then I couldn’t wait to get the driver out. I knew that this would be the acid test. If the driver went straight then I’d know for sure that my golf swing had moved up to a whole new level. The first drive went arrow straight.”

“I took a break and just stood there resting on my club. I felt so good inside I wanted to enjoy the moment. Part of me could hardly believe that I could hit so many good shots one after the other. I kept telling myself over and over, “you’ve got a proper golf swing, at last.”

“Now I have to tell you that I did pull a couple of shots with the driver. They still flew straight but they would have finished in the semi-rough on the left of the fairway. The rest just honed in on the flag I was aiming at. What a great feeling!”

“After that I didn’t want to go to work. I just wanted to go out and play golf because I know that from now on it’s going to be greatest fun every time I play.”

“If you ask me what I think now, I think that every golfer who wants a good golf swing, and you’ve got to have a good swing if you want to hit the ball straight and true, should get themselves a copy of The Golf Mind-Movies Power Pack.”

This article is taken from an e-mail sent in by a delighted golfer who had been playing for 12 years before he purchased The Golf Mind-Movies Power Pack.

It’s often said that you shouldn’t have any tension in your swing. This isn’t true. You need tension, the thing you don’t need is strength. There’s a big difference between the two, and if you can’t distinguish between them, it may be stopping you from reaching your potential.

To get the feeling of both tension and strength, simply stand up and hang your arms at your side. To feel tension, extend your arms downward to the ground as far as they go. As you do this, you will feel tension in your arms because they are stretched to their longest point. Now to feel strength, make two fists and squeeze as hard as you can. These are two totally different feelings that have two totally different affects on your swing.

This feeling of strength is what most inexperienced players feel when they hit the ball and they mistake it for tension. They get this feeling because they’re trying to hit the ball so hard that their arm muscles lock up. This feeling of strength is deceiving though because it also gives the person the feeling of power. If this feeling of strength is removed, the inexperienced player then thinks that they are not going hit the ball as far so, they immediately they tighten up again.

This feeling of strength in your arms will do two things to destroy your swing:

1. It will narrow your swing arc because the feeling of strength makes your arm muscles contract or buckle through and past impact. The narrower your swing arc, the slower the club will swing.

2. It will inhibit the hinging and re-hinging of your wrists also resulting in a slower clubhead speed. The harder you hit, the tighter your wrists will which will also slow the club down.

So how is the clubhead speed increased if you feel tension?

1. To achieve the tension I am talking about, you must allow the arms to be stretched out to their fullest through and past impact. To stretch them out means your muscles cannot be turned on. You have to keep them loose. To understand the increase in arc width, imagine that your golf swing is like picking up a weight and swinging it in a circle on a piece of string. The weight represents your club, the string is your arms, and your body is your hand that is twirling it. As the weight swings, the piece of string will get tense. This is because the weight is stretching it to its longest point. This maximizes its arc. It’s this wide arc that allows the weight to swing its fastest. Remember, feeling strength in your arms pulls the clubhead closer to you because it contracts your arm muscles. If your arm muscles contract, it would be like the piece of string getting shorter as you spin the weight not longer. The shorter the piece of string, the slower it will swing.

2. Loosening up the arms, and keeping the muscles turn off, will also loosen up your wrists. To understand how the wrist hinge will help to create clubhead speed, imagine opening a door with rusty hinges and one with well oiled hinges. Obviously, the well oiled hinges will allow the door swing open and closed faster. If your wrists were “well oiled” it would result in more clubhead speed as well. To get the feeling of wrists that are too tight (rusty hinges), try clenching your fists again. This time pay attention to your wrists and how locked up they become when you feel strength in your arms. So allowing the arms to stretch out through and past impact not only maximizes the arc width, but it also loosens your wrists.

Now that you know how detrimental strength is to your swing as opposed to tension, take a look at a few areas where you are likely to feel it:

1. The first area is your grip. Your grip pressure at set up should be 2 out of 10 where 10 is the tightest.

2. In your set up you should feel like your arms are just hanging and there is no strength in them. If you don’t start with them stretched out how are they going to stretch out through and past impact?

3. The takeaway is the next area to check. If you take the club away fast, you are turning on your arm muscles. You should take the club away slow and smooth to avoid this arm strength. To feel this, just flip the club upside down so you are gripping the club where the clubhead is (flipping the club this way makes it really light). Now as you take a few practice swings, you can immediately tell if your arms are tightening. Make sure you take the club back slow enough that you don’t feel your arms turn on then apply this same feeling to your actual takeaway (once you flip the club around to the correct position).

4. The next area is just as you are going to start your downswing. Remember, human nature is telling you to hit the ball hard. If you follow you instincts, you are guaranteed to feel strength in your arms. So from now on, don’t think about hitting anything. A great way to achieve this is to imagine you have a magic marker taped to your clubhead and there’s a huge piece of paper you are swinging against. Your objective is to draw the widest circle you can on the piece of paper as you swing down and through past impact. If you can think of this image you will definitely increase the width of your arc and feel the tension in your arms from the club pulling them out.

5. The final area is just before contact. People feel they have to give the shot just that little extra help to get it in the air. In doing so, they also turn on their arms. Remember to keep the image of the weight swinging on a piece of string in your mind as you swing your club. The weight swings freely around an axis pulling the string to its longest point. Your club should be allowed to swing freely around your body so it too, is allowed to swing to its widest point. You don’t have to help the ball get in the air.

The next time you go to the practice range, try to get this new feeling of tension that I have described. If you’re doing it properly, you can tell because you will probably hit the ground behind the ball a few times. Don’t avoid these fat shots. If you try to avoid them, you will do so by tightening your arms again. Just keep hitting shots (even if the club hits the ground behind the ball). Within 20 balls, you’ll get used to your new, wider swing arc and start to hit some of the most solid shots of your life!

What’s your idea of a perfect round of golf? If you were to shoot 72, would that be a perfect round to you? The best players in the world only hit approximately 70% of their fairways and 12 – 13 of their greens in regulation when they play, and yet, they can still shoot 72 or better. So if the pros aren’t perfect, and they still shoot great numbers, what should your idea of perfect be? You’re idea of perfect is should be that you can never achieve it. Why’s it so important to understand that you’ll never be perfect? It’s so important, because at your level, trying to be perfect puts added pressure on your game. The game of golf has enough pressure already without you adding more. So if you stop trying to be perfect, you can lighten up a little and have more fun playing this game.

Give Yourself Permission to Make Mistakes

If you can understand that you’ll never be perfect while playing this game, you can finally give yourself permission to make mistakes when you go to play instead of getting down on yourself. You can stop scratching your head in disbelief after you hook that drive or miss the green because even the best players aren’t perfect. Permission to make mistakes will also allow you to focus on your future shots, instead of dwelling on the past. Before your next round, tell yourself that you’re going to hit some bad shots and there’s nothing you can do about it. If you tell yourself this, you’ll reduce the pressure you are putting on yourself allowing you to have a more enjoyable round.

Pitching, Chipping and Greenside Bunkers

These can be some of the most difficult shots in golf. Because these shots are so difficult, and because people rarely practice them, it should be obvious that you’re not going to hit all of these shots within 3 feet of the hole. The next time you’re faced with a tough little pitch shot, a long chip or tough bunker shot, instead of hoping to get the ball close, why not think about just getting the ball on the green? If you just try to get the ball on the green, you are not pressuring yourself to hit a perfect shot. If you take this new approach you might be surprised at how close these short shots will end up.

Putting

If you think you are going to make every 6 foot putt you’re mistaken. Putting guru, Dave Pelz, figured out that the pros only make 50% from 6 feet, 20% from 10 feet and 10% from 15 feet. Once you realize these stats, you’ll stop getting mad at yourself for missing putts. If you miss a six footer and whack your foot with your putter in disgust, not only will you have a hard time walking to the next hole, but it will be more difficult maintaining your composure on the next tee shot. So the best thing you can do when you miss a putt, is to tell yourself that it’s no big deal. The stats prove that even the best players in the world, only make a small number of putts.

The Practice Range is for Practicing

In teaching golf for over 15 years, I have been exposed to all types of golfers. The main thing I see on the practice range, is that people care more about where their ball is going than they do about what they are working on. Because of this, they often get angry when they hit bad shots. If this sounds familiar, you have to realize that the practice range is the place you should be practicing. You should be working on something in your game that needs to be worked on. It is not a place where you should be trying to hit every shot perfectly. If you’re working on a swing position or change, there’s no way you’re going to master it in 5 minutes. This means you should be hitting bad shots when you practice. Make sure that the next time you go to the range, you use this time to work on something. Forget about trying to hit perfect shots and think about perfecting the positions you’re working on. The faster you make the changes, the closer to perfect your shots will become.

How Perfect Are You?

If you really want to see how perfect you are all you have to do is put yourself to the test. Go out on a quiet Sunday afternoon and hit 2 balls playing the best shot with each ball. Keep your score and see how you make out at the end of the round. Once you add up your score, you’ll truly see how close to perfect you really are.

Until next time,

The best golf exercises are not complicated; you don’t need to be a member of a gym; and you don’t need thousands of dollars in equipment. Yes…there are new golf fitness machines coming out in the market that look respectable, but they want an arm and a leg for them.

When you think of the best golf exercises, you’ve got to think like an athlete for a minute. Golf is an athletic sport, and thanks to guys like Tiger Woods, golfers are realizing they need to train like an athlete to see improvement.

Most athletes don’t ever use machines. Machines guide you through certain ranges of motion that don’t benefit the golf swing. The golf swing is a very dynamic movement, that is not like other movements.

The baseball swing is very similar from a mechanical standpoint…but two distinct differences. In baseball you ‘react’ to a moving object (in golf the ball is not moving); and in baseball the ball is approximately waist high and in golf it’s on the ground.

So in order to incorporate the best golf exercises, you’ve got to take a look at your body position and the muscles involved to maintain that position.

What is it?

We know at address you have a tilt in your spine, a bend at the hips and knees. And even a little ankle flex. That’s a somewhat athletic position, similar to a squat, but not quite.

Now…not only are you in the position, but now you have to swing a long lever (club) at over 80 plus mph and stay in this position (posture).

Impossible if you have weak and stiff golf specific muscles!

Here’s is a quick test. When you are in your golf posture, just start touching the muscles in your body that are flexed. It will be the quads, hamstrings, glutes, calves and even the lower back muscles.

So we know that the best golf exercises will hit those muscle groups (and preferably in a standing position).

Now add the very powerful rotation of your upper body (backswing) and you’ve got the core involved. So you’ll need to do some golf exercises that incorporate core rotation and flexibility.

As you can see, the best golf exercises are NOT on machines and do not need to be done in a gym.

All you need is a pair of dumbbells, some inexpensive exercise tubing and maybe a weighted medicine ball and you can dramatically improve your golf swing right in your home in less than 30 minutes a day!

Hopefully you are motivated to take this approach to your golf improvement and you have a better understanding of what the best golf exercises are.

Strength training for golf is viewed by golfers as a lot of work, time-consuming, boring and you need a gym membership to do it. None of the above is true, and if you read this article, I’ll explain why.

You see… strength training for golf isn’t on machines anyways…so that eliminates the requirement of a gym. All you need is a pair of handweights, exercise tubing and a stability ball and you’ve got your entire “in-home” golf fitness gym.

It’s not a lot of work, if you pick and choose the area you want to focus on. It’s not time-consuming if you do it in the convenience of your home, and have a plan of action. And lastly, it can be a lot of fun, when you use bands, exercise balls and training equipment specific to golf.

There many “so-called” strength training for golf programs, but when you take a look at them, you’ll see pictures of golfers sitting on their butts in a machine. I don’t know about you, but I think golf is done “on your feet”, right?

Strength training for golf is becoming “mainstream” with the golfing community. We see and hear all the pros doing it and playing their best golf; so why wouldn’t we amateurs do it also?

There are so many reasons why to participate in a strength training for golf program, that you can’t overlook it and say you don’t need it.

Lacking power in your swing? It’s because your body can’t produce any stored energy from a full backswing with torque in your core. That’s a ‘physical’ issue, not mechanical.

Is your golf swing inconsistent from one swing to the next? Swing faults originate from some deeper physical limitation that’s not allowing you to make a mechanically sound and repeatable swing. How many times have you taken a lesson and heard your pro say, “you need to make a full backswing”, but you just can’t physically do it? That’s a ‘physical’ issue, not mechanical.

How about injuries? Do you have one at the moment? The golf swing is physically damaging to the body if you don’t have enough strength and flexibility to withstand the force the golf swing puts on it. Swinging a 3 foot long lever (club) at up to 90 mph is unbelievably stressful on the joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles of the body. That’s a ‘physical’ issue, not mechanical.

I could go on and on, but I think you might get the idea by now.

Strength training for golf may be your “missing link” to your best game ever! If you’ve tried all the ‘other’ methods, this is the ONLY one left. Why wouldn’t you explore the possibilities a little more?

If you’re looking to add power to your golf swing; improve your consistency; and prevent golf injuries, then you’ve got to consider strength training for golf.

Stretching for golf is critical to slowing down the rapid decline senior golfers experience, as well as reducing the stress on the muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints. The golf swing puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the body, and unless you are participating in a consistent stretching for golf program, you will be a statistic.

The statistic I’m talking about is being one of the millions of golfers who aren’t improving and who are injured at some point every season you play. Does this sound like you? If so, keep reading to find out how you avoid being a statistic, and instead be one of the very few who actually improve and play their best golf.

The golf swing is dynamic. What I mean is it involves motion. This motion needs to be fluid, tension-less, and powerful. The only way to accomplish this is with dynamic strength and stretching drills aimed specifically at your golf swing faults.

This approach to golf improvement is not utilized among most amateur golfers, but if done correctly will take your game to the highest level in the quickest amount of time.

In most of the golf fitness books, videos and articles you read, you will see the golfer holding a particular stretch for up to 60 seconds.

Let me ask you this!

Do you ever hold any part of your golf swing when you’re playing or hitting balls? I don’t think so. So why would you train your body in this fashion? You wouldn’t! You would look at certain positions in the golf swing and incorporate dynamic (movement) stretches to improve those positions in an efficient manner.

For example, let’s say you are having a tough time making a full backswing. The backswing is a fluid and tension-less movement that is destroyed when you add tension or restriction to it.

Instead, you would make some backswing moves, going as far as you can, then a little farther and releasing it. Doing this 8-10 times throughout the day. You can do this in your office or at home. No need for a gym or workout gear.

Grab a short iron, stand tall with your arms extended straight out in front of you. The club will be horizontal to the ground at about chest height. Now rotate back as far as you can without too much hip rotation, then rotate through as far as you can with more hip rotation just like your golf swing.

Now this is a dynamic movement that will greatly improve your body’s ability to turn back fully and through to a complete finish for maximum power and distance.

In closing, don’t get me wrong!

You can definitely do static stretches and not hurt your golf swing. But the emphasis should be on more dynamic stretches, and less holding stretches to maximize your golfing potential.

As you can see, this is a much different approach to stretching for golf.
